Inlet Harbor Marina Receives
- Marina designated Volusia County’s first dual “Clean Marina and Boatyard”
PONCE INLET – Florida today recognized the commitment of Inlet Harbor Marina to protect the water quality and habitat of the Intracoastal waterway and Halifax River. The marina became the first facility in Volusia County to achieve dual certification as a Clean Marina and Clean Boatyard.
“This dual designation is a testament to the environmental commitment of Inlet Harbor Marina,” said Department of Environmental Protection Central District Director Vivian Garfein. “Clean water is vital to Florida’s environment and economy, and Clean Marinas and Clean Boatyards such as Inlet Harbor lead the way in protecting this precious resource.”
Located along the Halifax River, Inlet Harbor Marina is a wet slip marina and boatyard equipped with a sewage pump-out, dry slips, recycling containers and posted environmental information. The marina is the 78th Clean Marina and the 12th Clean Boatyard in the state.
“We are proud to recognize Inlet Harbor Marina as Volusia County's first Clean Marina and Clean Boatyard,” said Clean Marina Program Manager Jan Delaney. “This facility’s involvement in the program shows that staff and management understand the benefits of an environmentally friendly operation.”
Over 2,000 marinas currently provide services to thousands of boaters using state waters daily. The effects of year-round boating activities contribute to constant and growing pressure on Florida’s sensitive aquatic and marine ecosystems. In response, the Clean Boating Partnership, which includes the Department of Environmental Protection, Marine Industries Association of Florida, Florida Sea Grant Program, United States Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary, developed the Clean Marina Program to help marinas, boatyards and boaters protect Florida’s waterways using simple environmental practices that prevent pollution.
Florida’s Clean Marinas and Boatyards go above and beyond required environmental regulations by adopting safeguards that keep solvents, sewage, fuel and oil out of the water, while protecting manatees and other marine creatures.
By educating boaters and improving operations at marine facilities, Florida’s Clean Marinas and Boatyards are helping to ensure a sustainable future for the environment, for boaters and for the billion-dollar marine industry.
